Not Much Happening

After our Disney trip in February we had no big adventures planned. We did a lot of bike riding around the area, going to the beach and spending time around the apartment being bums. Daisy and Piper love it when we stay home and have "yoga pants" days. We are always looking for local places to ride our bikes to and have a picnic lunch. One such lovely place I found was Fern Forest Nature Center. The park is about 7.5 miles from the apartment which would be the longest we had attempted to ride at one time. So with a lunch packed we headed out. Part of our journey was along the roadway on the sidewalk which was not to bad. Eventually we got to a more congested area and decided to cut over to the greenway that runs along a canal.

Our canal ride

We did get to see these two guys (or gals) out sunning during our greenway ride. After a few stops for picture taking and bike adjustments we made it to Fern Forest.

Lunch time before we hit the park

Nice walkway to get you through the forest

Saw this little guy looking for something to eat

He found something up a tree and scampered up it to get it

Swampy but very pretty

After a few hours walking around the forest we headed back home. We decided to take the greenway all the way back to the apartment and came across these two owls. These are burrowing owls that dig holes for their nesting.

On one of my days off in March we decided to go to Fort Myers to look at a travel trailer. Since we were so close and we had the girls with us we did a spur of the moment trip to Sanibel Island. We had looked for a beach to carry the dogs to but had not found any near our apartment. Happily I found that there was a doggie friendly beach on Sanibel Island.

Finally on the way to the BEACH!

David was sad about this!
Saw this turtle on the way to the water

Daisy was in heaven, loved the water. Piper however was not impressed!

Shells galore!!

I saw this sign and stayed away. But David and the girls were not afraid.
It was a long but fun trip. Traffic on Sanibel Island was horrific and I thought we would never get off the island. We found a travel trailer we really like but are still trying to decide between travel trailer and fifth wheel. You would think after 5 years we would have that figured out!

My second contract here in Florida will be coming to an end in a few weeks. I have decided to stay for a third contract. We will get a chance to go home for a bit in between the contacts. I'm ready to sit on my porch in the cool mountain air.
