More fun with Kathryn

We had a very busy week while Kathryn was visiting. We crammed as much as we could around my work days. A fellow travel nurse had told me about a "drive through zoo". He said how awesome it was so we decided to go while she was here. Since Anna was here now on an assignment we dragged her along. We had a blast!!

This place is huge! You pay your admission per car and can buy food to feed the animals. My hubby was too cheap to buy the food so we started out on our journey. Some of the animals come right up to the car; they are use to being fed. Anna brought some snacks for herself but ended up sharing her pretzels.

Zebra!

The Zebras were hilarious. As you can see they want to taste everything! There were 5 or 6 around us. We were watching the ones on the passenger side of the car when one came up stuck his head in the drivers window between David and the steering wheel. It startled us so bad that I missed getting a picture; it just came out a blur. They are so pretty to see up close.
This one was nibbling on Kathryn's bracelet.

Love me a giraffe
Giraffes are so big but so graceful. When they run it looks like they are in slow motion. We tried hard to get them to come over to the car but they were more interested in eating the hay/grass that was put out for them.
"Hey, I was here first!"
About have way through the drive they have a place to stop and get out to stretch your legs and spend money! They have a gift shop, restrooms and place to eat with an observation deck. There had been a fire at the original eating place so all of that was closed and under repairs. They had a make shift gift shop, bathrooms and eating place set up. We took the opportunity to go to the bathroom and get a few souvenirs. As you can see from the picture below this place is huge. This was just looking down in one direction.

These guys were cool looking. Horns are like a corkscrew.

These were just a few of the animals we saw. There was a ram or ram relative that head butted the car door. Guess he was mad that we didn't feed him! Didn't hurt the door, but was very funny. It was a fun time. Before we got there we ate a great lunch at Hammond's BBQ.

We also visited the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens. It was nice but they had several areas closed or roped off for weddings. It is very spread out but still nice. Our favorite area was the Japanese Gardens. Very peaceful and pretty.

Kathryn and I walking across the water. There was a little girl that
wanted to walk across so bad. She would get started then get
scared and go back. Her Dad would go a little ways and coax
her along but she never made it all they way.

This has to be the biggest/oldest tree I have ever seen.

If in the Fort Worth area it is worth a visit. They had a big rose garden that I would love to see when things were all in bloom. When we were there only a few varieties of roses were blooming plus they had the main rose garden area closed for a wedding. Guess we should have gone during the week instead of the weekend.

We had a great lunch here

Had a great visit with this face!

We were exhausted by the time she was gone home. It was a great visit and we all had a blast! Now it was time to get back to working and making some more to be able to play some more. I'm sure some of you who read these post don't think I work but I really do!!

Kathryn comes to town

In between my first and second contract we got to go home for a week. Our youngest daughter Kathryn came back to Dallas with us to visit for a week. Even though I had to work that week we squeezed in lots of things to do. First up was a trip to downtown.

Just some of the sites as we walked around downtown and the West End.

Cool things we saw. The two music statues we found as we walked down an alleyway in the
West End.

Jackie

We did not have time to visit the Book Depository while Kathryn was here. We did go to the grassy knoll and all the other outside stuff.  David and I had already taken the Book Depository tour on a previous visit to downtown. It is always very chilling every time we go. These two pictures of Jackie and JFK are my favorite. They are both comprised of tiny little pictures of each other.
JFK
JFK is millions of Jackie pictures and Jackie is millions of JFK pictures. You would never know unless you walked up close. We could not take pictures during the 6th floor tour, however on the 7th floor they have art exhibits and other things at times. These two pictures just happened to be there when we went. If ever in Dallas make sure you take a day to go visit the JFK stuff.

Our next fun adventure was a TRAIN RIDE! The Texas State Railroad operates a train that runs round trip between Palestine and Rusk winding through the Piney Woods of East Texas. You can choose to ride in open or closed car; we rode in the open one. Also you can order a box lunch from them or bring your own; we packed a cooler and had a picnic lunch when we arrived in Rusk.

This building was in some movie or TV show. Missed the name....sorry.

View from the rear.
It was a cloudy day and the train was not very crowded so we got to walk from car to car all the way to the rear. Thankfully the rain held off until we got back to Palestine. The down pour came after we got off the train and were walking to our car (go fugure!). We had a great day and enjoyed the old train.

Blue Bonnets!

We still had one more trip planned with Kathryn before she left. Since this post is getting so long I will continue her visit on another post. So tune in.....
